Hi, 2010 HSE auto
Lost power today. Had been out 3 short journeys and taking SWMBO shopping lost power.p
Wouldn’t,t rev past approx. 1800. Throttle felt spongy, no feel..
Could drive but very slowly., cleared it self once then came back when 10 mile trip home from Sainsbury’s.
25/30 on M8 not a lot of fun. Cleared again for last two miles.
No messages, LR fuel filter this year. LR crank sensor this year.
Any ideas please. First time this has happened. Jim A

Scan it for fault codes, if possible.
Make a note of any error codes in case you delete them.


FWIW my SD4 went into limp home mode but cleared itself the next day. That was several years ago and it didnt do it again until I needed to replace the EGR valve this year. Jules

Just back from garage. They use a Bosch decoder. Tried various things, not a thing shows up.
Been for another three mile trip and all going well.
Just have to carry on. Brings back bad memories of Disco 2 and better half losing faith in car.

Did it go into limp mode and show the restricted performance on the dash?

Mine showed turbo vane related codes when 'Restricted Performance' struck.

Codes were confirmed by AA, and cleared by Dealer using some kind of check and exercise program.

There was nothing at all on the screen, did not go into limp mode.
Just no feeling in throttle pedal. Only thing the garage suggested was possibly MAF.
Readings were good Ran it into the garage and back this afternoon, 6 mile round trip and no problems.
Could the MAF be faulty. Checked it and immaculately clean.
Each time it happened it eventually cleared it self after a while. Jim A

I can't see why the throttle pedal felt different, it's not connected to anything other than a position sensor. Hyundai Ioniq 5 Ultimate. The family car.

How do i exercise the vanes please?
intend to go for a reason able run tomorrow, no motorway of about 25 miles and see what happens.
Can always call out the RAC if necessary.

Do you mean that the accelerator pedal is physically easier or harder to depress, or that it is having a abnormal effect on the engine?

The turbo vanes can get sticky and you can push them through their full range of movement to clear the soot by disconnecting the actuator arm and moving the vane lever by hand - all in the JLR manual.

When my turbo actuator became separated from the control module in June, I was getting no codes. I was, however, getting normal acceleration and a noticeable noise of turbo flutter when taking my foot off the accelerator pedal. So I guess the turbo vanes were sitting in the full power position. I would imagine if they had been sitting in the minimum power position, I would have had no turbo assistance, poor acceleration and no flutter. 2005 D3 2.7 Auto

Although I did not recognise it at the time, I realise now that I had a 'wuff, wuff, wuff,' noise from the engine, during my turbo vane problem, when I released the accelerator (off-load - that blipping the throttle whilst stationary).
