Yes, I had one of these replaced after one failed on mine. It feels like a track rod end is on its way out but there is no play there, it’s all at the steering rack end. My Indy was worried that tracking adjustment might not be possible as the new part was slightly longer than the old. It was possible but was at the extreme of adjustment. LR say that the new part is a direct replacement for the old. |

Fair enough, that answer that then. I will add that to the lower control arm shopping list...

The track rod inner joint isn't adjustable in the true sense of the word. In years gone by, the inner joints were adjusted by adding or removing shims. However the Freelander along with most vehicles doesn't use shims for adjustment of the inner joints. This means they need replacing as a unit, which isn't difficult or particularly expensive. It's best to replace the gaiter with genuine replacements at the same time. Hyundai Ioniq 5 Ultimate. The family car. 2009 Rimini Red SE TD4. Gone. 2006 Tonga Green i6 HSE. Gone. What are the symptoms you notice when the inner joints are worn? ie sloppy steering, car wandering etc |

On mine it was play front to back on the wheel that wasn’t present at the track rod ball joint but was at the inner joint. Otherwise it was loose steering as you’d get if a track rod had worn. |
