Done something stupid... - Locking wheel nut key

I am sure you all know where this is going...

Doing some suspension work last week and took it for a test run and left the bloody locking wheel nut key on!!! as expected It wasn't still attached when I arrived back home.

I walked the length of my street that night and couldn't find it but my test run is a 5 mile loop through country roads so it could be anywhere.

What's the cheapest way to get a replacement? I did the same in a Disco 3 around 5 years ago and the LR dealer said all discovery 3 keys tend to be one specific key number and he was right. from what I can tell the same is not true of the FL2.

Really annoyed, this isn't the first (or second... or third...) time I have actually done this. the first 2 times it was sitting on the driveway, the 3rd time was the Disco 3 above and loads of times I have found them still attached.

No one’s going to pinch FL2 wheels in this day & age. Just buy 4 x new standard nuts & either remove them yourself (google) or pay to have them removed by a local garage/tyre fitter. (Now Sold). 2008 Freelander 2 (Nazca Sand) SE TD4 Auto. Statutory write off & on WOVR for hail damage but still road legal.
171037Km as of 09/05/22
Superchips Bluefin Flash
Nanocom Evo II (also sold)

Thanks for that Ebay link. That looks like just the thing. I'll give them a shot and report back.

The worst time to loose it too. halfway through a suspension refresh with only one side done!

Done something stupid

Hello ransoman, yes Iv done similar and left the dam thing on, plus after spending hours looking for it I gave up.
If you are fortunate enough to purchase the exact tool again which I was off the same link on eBay what I did was to paint it with a bright colour something like pink of yellow so it’s easily seen when and after maintenance. So the episode doesn’t return!

Go for a 5 mile walk - its lovely weather. Its probably come off sooner than later on your journey.
I did the same same and found mine about a mile away. Jules

Keep my locking wheel nut in a plastic bag, whenever I take the wheel nut out I put the bag over the gear stick, that stops you driving off without putting the wheel nut back in tha bag first.

I've also done the same thing. I found mine about ½ a mile from home, so wasn't the end of the world.
I now loop a locking wheel nut bag around the steering wheel as a reminder to remove the key. Hyundai Ioniq 5 Ultimate. The family car.
