Well, big shock today. Renewal from Directline has jumped from £326 to £591.
Third year with Directline.
No claims, last minor bump was over 40 years ago.
I am now 81. Annual mileage is now less than 5000.
Live in rural area, wife partially disabled. Bus service is rubbish, need the car.
Will speak to Directline later, but before that will try Moneysupermarket for comparison quotes.
Seems a bit ridiculous. Will keep you all updated on my progress. Jim A

I think you”ll find its age related unfortunately. You may find it cheaper elsewhere but I’m afraid it’s only going to get worse… my father is now 88 yrs old and he is now playing £1250 per annum for the same car!

Yes it’s the age thing. I remember how it shot up in cost for the in-laws. He worked it out on insurance alone it would be cheaper to use taxis for what they needed a car for.

I understand the age thing. What an increase though.
Insurance and road tax now amount to about £20 a week.
As I said , I will try around. Not due to renew for about 4 weeks yet.
