Clutch Master Cylinder "quick" release connections

In a major pickle after swopping out the master cylinder. I have reconnected but have a leak on the lower of the two connections.

It seems that the hydraulic pipe should slip into a plastic collar as far as the ridge in the metal, and then the plastic collar should go into the socket and be locked by the metal clip.

As things stand the pipe can pull out of the collar after it is clipped.
Do the metal clips have to be levered right up on to the top of the housing to secure this or is "something" missing.. feels like forcing it to get the ciips higher than the 5 to 1 position in clock face terms.

Also the insert looks like it should perhaps have an o ring on the tip of it to seal against the cylinder (which maybe came off on removal). Does anybody know if there are any pics/ exploded parts diagram etc which could help me resolve this major problem.

Pic of the offending area attached. Shading perhaps indicates that the collar and pipe shouldnt have separated on removal? Clip looks like it just locks rather than have a role in sealing

Ok so with a closer inspection I could see a recess about 10mm inside the collar and pushed the pipe "through" until this engaged with the ridge. This makes sense in terms of locking the pipe. Reassembled and reclipped. Pipe is now secure but the fitting is still dripping. Still puzzled about how this is supposed to seal now?

Crikey - well I've found some info associated with Volvo and I think confirmed that the quick connector should have a rubber nipple on the end. Does anybody know if this generic part will fit (how universal are these) or better still the land rover part number ( for Volvo the part is the plastic collar, nipple and o ring)
