2010 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Auto Galway Green

Muddy Mods raised air intake

Just received my copy of LRO and they feature a raised air intake install on a freelander 2 anyone on the forum given this a go? I don't like the idea of cutting a hole in my wing but it makes sense for a truly sealed system?

It's good to see Warren still having his products featured in LRO magazine.

Unfortunately raised air intakes aren't for water, but for lifting the air intake above road dust. A Freelander 2 floats before the factory intake is flooded, or it would if it was properly sealed. Hyundai Ioniq 5 Ultimate. The family car.

Yeah the quality would be unquestionable just wish it could have used the factory cut out like this one.

Can't order it unfortunately. If I do decide to go down the muddy Mods route I'll be sure to document the install for the forum

Must admit after chasing through the intake system on my i6 when we first bought it I was shocked at the very poor fitting components of the system, having worked on systems to prevent water ingress I couldn’t believe this on a LR. Regards

2007 Freelander 2 TD4 GS Manual Baltic Blue

The air intake ducting between the opening on the front wing at the gill vent and the air filter isn’t watertight, probably not even air tight. You need to check the flap valve on the drain at the bottom of the air box.

When I checked the i6 the water egress valve had been removed! Regards

Why would they cut a hole instead of using the huge hole that's already there?

The RAI kit I installed extends through the mudguard right to the airbox.

I did cut a hole to install a snorkel on my Disco 1 though. One of those big growing experiences! MY11 SD4 SE Auto

2008 Freelander 2 TD4 XS Auto Orkney Grey

Installed it the other week. Pretty easy install and clear instructions. Chose to stich drill and file down the cut out rather than using a hole cutter. Haven't tested it out in deep water yet.

Well, sorry to say I did not do a video in the end but I took plenty of pictures and am please to say all done! I must confess it was a real breeze to install the most difficult part for me was removing the arch liner and mud flap due to weathering corroding the screws.

I did not remove the headlight tray there was enough space to squeeze the pipe through although I has to cut the original ducting out as there was not enough space to remove this without removing the headlight tray.

I cut out the template included and taped it in place along with masking up the surrounding area to prevent swarf from scratching the surrounding paint work. I cut around the hole to be made by using a craft knife then marked over it with a marker pen.

I then used a centre punch to punch the centres of the 75mm and 20mm holes required. I used a 76mm hole saw and step drilll.

I could have used my angle grinder but chose to use tin snips to finish it off

After filing down the rough edges and treating with paint and allowing to dry I fitted the rubbed seal to protect the edges of the cut out and trial fitted the raised air intake

At this point I applied masking tape to the A frame, cut back the rubber seal on the A Frame and positioned the intake to mark the location of the 4x5mm holes required for the rivets (also included) and deburred and painted the bare metal, to allow good time for this to dry I proceeded to run the duct along the top of the wing following the original pipe work to the filter box.

Previous to this step I had already inserted the adaptor included in the kit and sealed with sealant (also provided) this allows the pipe to fit onto the factory filter box.

It was just a simple matter after the paint dried to fit the air intake into position and rivet into place, then using the sealant provided to resecure the rubber seal previously cut back to accommodate the air intake bracket.

I really love the look of this, I placed my hand over the intake whilst the engine was running to the point it was going to cut out so hopefully a very sealed system
