Turbo Actuator replacement - 2007 2.2 Diesel

Hello All

Having a few fault codes pointing to the turbo - does anyone know if the actuator can be replaced separatly on 2007 models?

Haynes suggest not, but conflicting info out there.

Andy, Yes you will get conflicting info but yes you should be able to replace the actuator on its own without removing the turbo. From memory its 3 or 4 bolts and the little circlip that holds the arm to the turbo to remove. Be careful as the little clip is very easy to lose as it can ping off when your trying to remove it. You can either buy a replacement on the likes of Ebay or get the old one reconditioned as a couple of options. You need to get the part number from the old actuator to make sure that you get the correct replacement. Again from memory the turbo is made by Mitsubishi and is used on a lot of different vehicles including Jaguars, Citroens etc I replaced the actuator on a friends Freelander when it went into limp mode and used an actuator from a Jaguar which had the same part number on it. No coding required and the restricted performance message clears when the car does its start up checks . Good luck! Thumbs Up

Have just replied to your PM.

As has just been said you can swop the actuator. However, when I had my turbo reconditioned they also wanted the actuator. Said they required both items when bench testing as both items are matched. Not sure if that is true, but then again I don't recondition turbo's.

Mine is a Garrett turbo. Not heard of any using Mitsubishi but could be wrong. Now at the point when I learn something new something old is lost out the other side !
Now retired so it doesn't matter anymore.
Freelander now gone.

Not done this YET but I have read that the Turbo body and actuator are paired and it's a Garrett make. Gasman did you remove and refit the unit yourself

England 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 GS Manual Baltic Blue

Early on in my ownership of an FL2 I read somewhere that just driving around doesn’t move the turbo variable vanes through their full range allowing carbon to build up and causing the vanes to stick. The simple fix was to disconnect the actuator and move the vanes manually through the full range and reconnect. I then used 2 stroke oil as an additive with diesel and occasionally drove it like I stole it and never had problems with carbon buildup in the exhaust system ever.

I did post a full how to plus photos after I did the job.
You were the only person to comment on the post. Rolling with laughter Now at the point when I learn something new something old is lost out the other side !
Now retired so it doesn't matter anymore.
Freelander now gone.
