JLR missed the market by not just updating the freelander and kept it as their budget buy.

More 'Evoque' than FL2. The DS has certainly grown on me since it was launched but whether or not it will be a replacement for my hugely under-utilised low mileage and exceedingly good condition 63 plate FL2… ?

Mmmm
I am allowed to be biased as I am on my second DS.
Is it a true replacement for the FL2, not really, the driving position is more car like, feels less elevated.
It can still swallow huge loads, and tows a caravan with ease. Just as good if not better off-road (mines active driveline Very Happy ), but the price of underbody protection is ridiculous.

Crash tested the FL2, hit in the rear by an Almeria doing 70mph, and still drove her home. Crash testing on the DS has been limited to completely destroying a Citroen C1 that drove into the side, again DS was usable afterwards. Both a good place to be when things go badly wrong.

Reliabilty,, the FL2 had issues up to the 20/30k mark, then bomb proof up to 150k, needed attention after that, but still always got me home. The first DS had issues for the first 6 months (20K?) and then was solid for the next 40+K. The second DS has had stupid stuff in the first 10k, water pump at 40k and seems to be settling down now (53k) neither DS has failed to get me home.

Don't get me started on Evokes, dreadful dreadful car, poor ergonomics, poor towing ability, lousy for stuffing things in, nasty place to be. Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her
Replaced by Ewok what a mistake - now a happy Disco Sport owner

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

I had a G4 in Tangiers Orange for a long time, fell in love with her at first sight - the Mrs was less enamored.
Then again the Mrs chose me Shocked Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her

You're so right. I've had a DS and got shot of it within a year. Apparently the latest model DS is better. I have test driven one and seems OK but is bigger than I need. Also bloomin' expensive.

There was supposed to be a smaller DS (more FL2 size) but that got canned.
