All this talk of watches...

As much as I like the Omega Seamaster and Omega is my favourite brand, I simply cannot afford the cost, justify the monthly payments or ask Santa for help.

That being said, another favourite brand of mine Tag Heuer, have this which is tempting me: http://www.goldsmiths.co.uk/TAG-Heuer-Form.../17381197/ LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

Had my mind absolutely, definately, dead-set on an Omega Tresor Deville but now currently looking at a Breguet classique ultra thin. Beautiful. Just beautiful.

I have always had an interest in cameras and said that when I retire I will buy myself a Leica. Like these watches it was a nice piece of precision engineering and pure indulgence. However, that was before digital cameras came out, now a Leica is no more than a badge on an overpriced far eastern camera body. Sad 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

The trouble with expensive watches (and I own a gold ebel 1911and a gold plate tag) is the cost to service them. I recently took my tag for service and they wanted over £350 for a watch with a 2nd hand value of about £500. The Ebel was similar money but the watch is worth considerably more than the tag. MY 09 GS manual in Lago Grey, Wood Co arm rest and side bumper strips - now sold.

Just found out that the authorised dealer service price for the watch I'm looking at above is £800. I'd take it to an Indy if I got it! Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto

Not many people know this but did you know that a watch that runs backwards is the most accurate timepiece?
Unless you have an atomic clock then your watch is either slightly fast or slow so it never actually tells the correct time. A watch that runs backwards however, is exactly right four times a day - which is twice as good as one that has stopped which is only correct twice a day.
Not sure if this is applicable to speedometers. Rolling Eyes 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

If I wanted to buy a watch today and pop it in the safe for a few years to get a small profit, I'd be looking at a pre-owned Tudor , probably one of the models that look like their sister company Rolex's Sub Mariners. They are not even silly money new compared to the likes of U-Boat , Bell and Howell and Tag, but have a design and build quality that is traditional and timeless . £2,000 put into such a watch would not be too risky.

Given the woeful interest rates available these days owning a nice new watch isn't costing you much more than leaving cash in the bank, and is less risky than investment . In fact when I look at funding my retirement , as safe bets go I could probably convince myself that a couple of good used Belgian made Browning shotguns and a few classic watches would be less risky and more fun than some structured investments.

My own GMT Master would never sell at £7k as it's been a daily wearer for 34 years , but three thousand all day long is realistic, Rolex are not the pinnacle of watch making but are probably the best known so have the biggest market. 2009 GS Auto Zermatt Silver - Sold June 21 after 10 years of ownership

Hoping to get up London tomorrow to view this beaut in the Breguet boutique. Won't be paying their prices though or even buying new if I decide on it!
