Paint match

Bought a can of Halfords Stornoway Grey to paint the plastic tailgate assembley, the almost silver look just did not look right.
The aerosol paint is quite noticeably lighter than the bodywork. I find it odd as a cars bodywork ages if anything it lightens up but this aerosol is a very poor match.
I used U-POL a while back to match up Nazca Sand on a previous FL2 and that was a near enough bang on match.
Is Halfords paint not that good, am I just unlucky?
Will try another make and see how that turns out.

Have been pondering this. I am wondering if it will alter in shade when it gets a couple of coats of clearcoat on it.

Halfords have admitted their paint is incorrect shade after I send a couple of photos. Bought another can from Rapid paints which is fine matches the car, as should the Halfords one.
