Any advice on Mobility Scooter Insurance

Please has anyone any hints or advice about insurance for mobility scooters.

Not only for personal liability, but for theft as modern mobility scooters are designed to fold up and wheel/carry away.

Thanks FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)
FL2 Metropolis SD4 Auto 2014 2017- (16k - 77k+ miles) (MY2015)
Metro in its 11th Year of (Extended) LR Warranty / Full LR Service History
(Expensive, but Trouble/Worry free - hopefully?)

No personal knowledge although did read somewhere that it was similar to normal motor cover - damage, theft, 3rd party cover etc.

I'd ask your home insurer. I think you should have liability cover as standard and I would think you can insure them under contents away from home. Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto
Evoque SD4 Dynamic Lux Auto
Present: Audi A3 S Line.

The home insurance is always a good one, if you're hit by a cyclist it is always worth taking their name and address and home insurance company, they could pay out on your damage or injury. my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis

There are special covers for mobility scooters, just do a quick search.

For my mobility scooter (although it is an off road type weighing 176 kg!) was £75 for three years when we bought it, covers theft, third party etc. Regards

David

Lovely i6 has now gone, but not me......

Please let me know if anything in my post offends you, as I may wish to offend you again......

Significant Other was ploughed down by some stupid old bird on one of these a year or so ago as she was getting off the bus. Didn’t even bloody stop, despite SO being left lying on the pavement. Not a chance of getting her details and has suffered with issues with her leg ever since.

Thanks for replies.

I will take your advice and email my home insurance (Saga) first.

I have looked through my documents and their website, but I cannot make any sense of what is covered outside of my house.

I will then take it up with one of the companies that advertise on the web.

I was hoping that someone had experienced getting a policy, and could recommend a reliable company.

Thanks again, Ian

PS the scooters are strapped securely to the floor, and then bungee straps keep the other items from joining us in the front seats, in the event of a very sudden stop. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)

Unfortunately I have only had the insurance for about a year and never had call to use it, so a recommendation would be a bit pointless, sorry. Regards

Thanks David,
As the wise forum members had pointed out I should have tried my own house insurance first.
This morning I contacted them.
Very helpful Internet Chat with them.

It seems that all I had to do is declare the 2 scooters, and for an extra £19 (total annually) I now have cover for theft, liability, etc.
All now seems well, although of course I will need to read the small print carefully when it arrives.

Thanks to all.

The reason we bought a separate insurance is it covers breakdowns and punctures as well, not sure if a home insurance cover would do that? Regards
