After having my Freelander for the last 12+ years I felt it was time to move on so ordered a Tesla Y last November. I was not sure that I had done the right thing as I loved the Freelander. However since picking up my Y on the 4th of March I am now getting used to it and not missing the Freelander as much as I thought I would. So Tesla now have my 2009 Freelander which will no doubt turn up at auction somewhere.

Our next car will be electric. In 2017 installed 3 phase to the garage as did all the other owner in our block of units. But I would like a taller car. That's a main point in getting the Freelander. I simply do not want to get down into a car, too old for it & was sick & tired of surrounded by tall cars in traffic.

i work for a roadside recovery /repair company, and plugged in to a vehicle to read fault codes, the mileage was about 60000,but the ecu i was communicating with said the fault occurred at 98000!so there are various ecus that all need mileage correcting, not just the engine ecu. |

We sold our FL2 in 2015 and changed to an Evoque. Kept it right up until last year. Apart from consumable items, we had no major problems with either of them. I'm still lurking here but I don't think I'll ever own another Land Rover. Petrol ones will be too expensive to run, electric ones will be too expensive to buy and diesel powered cars are being hounded out of existence. Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto Evoque SD4 Dynamic Lux Auto Present: Audi A3 S Line. |

In NSW each year when we renew the car's registration, the odometer distance is recorded. In the State of Victoria, this year is introducing a 2.5 cent tax per km for EVs & hybrids. On average Australians travel 13,000 km per year, $325.00 When Australians buy a new car we pay tax up front. EVs are considerably more expensive due to the battery, so pay proportionally more tax. Then we have a luxury car tax & most EVs fall into this category. It is beside the point that the value of the car is because of luxury or a battery. So EVs are paying a lot of tax up front & being hit with annual registration & per km tax. Other States are looking at the this as well. Part of our complex Federal/State tax system. It seems that the mechanism to enable EVs to be charged tax on their electricity usage already exists via smart functionality of both chargers and the EVs themselves.

Which is one reason we are presently sticking with our “granny charger”, the smart meter doesn’t know if your charging an EV or boiling a kettle or heating the house with storage heaters, but a Smart meter WILL be able to communicate with the new EVSE units (7kw home chargers) and tell the supplier your using that electricity to charge a vehicle.

Ours broke even after 5 years, we were saving £1800 a year just in fuel, and the residue value is far more than our previous oil burner was after six years, far more! On the long distance stuff, this is why JLR are developing hydrogen EV power for long distance work and remote areas, although still whether you’ll be able to find a hydrogen supplier in the middle of the Amazon is debatable Regards David Lovely i6 has now gone, but not me...... Please let me know if anything in my post offends you, as I may wish to offend you again...... |

Couldn’t you take your own supply of hydrogen on such a long trip
