United Kingdom 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Auto Stornoway Grey
Fuel gauge drops to zero after 50 miles

Starting from cold, after 50-60 miles, fuel gauge drops to zero and terrain selector light goes out. Car continues but with reduced power and eventual coming to a stop. Car starts again without a problem after a couple of hours. Fuel sender replaced but problem persists.

When I had this problem I suffered erratic fuel gauge, and resultant engine limp home (as the car tried to protect itself from running dry) . FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)
FL2 Metropolis SD4 Auto 2014 2017- (16k - 77k+ miles) (MY2015)
Metro in its 11th Year of (Extended) LR Warranty / Full LR Service History
(Expensive, but Trouble/Worry free - hopefully?)

I have the same issue on the Range Rover, but was told that “they all do that sir” Rolling Eyes

Just wondering if anyone here know's of a quicker method of replacing the fuel tank sensor's on the fl2 2.2. Mine has now completely gave up the ghost & won't even start now after month's of erratic fuel readings & going into limp mode. Someone suggested cutting a hole under the seat about the pump/sensor's but this is a drastic measure me thinks. Any advice appreciated. Rob

You need to read the technical bulletin.

This is usually corrosion in the connections and not a sensor/sender problem.

I've not heard of any method other than dropping the prop shaft and tank etc.
The good news is that the repair parts cost is pence. FL2 HSE Auto Galway Green
Evoque SD4 Auto Blue.
FL1 HSE TD4 Manual Black - Gone.
RR Classic V8 EFI - Gone

If I probe pin 1 and 2 of the tank connector, I get a reading of ~300 Ohm. Perfect.

If I probe pin 1 and 6 of the tank connector, I get a reading of no continuity.

When I put in the connector towards the ECM and I probe this side, I get ~300 Ohm as if it forms a loop from pin 2.

Should I get a value between 42-1000 from the tank side of the connector?
