Gearbox problem only have 3rd 4th and reverse

Hi could someone please help I was in the car park waiting for my son when I tried to engage 1st gear the freelander seemed to select only 3rd gear and 4th I also discovered now there is no 5th and 6th gear but I have reverse does anyone know what the problem might be please. Thank you all in advance for any help

Had a similar problem a many years ago and was able to use Landrover Assist. The problem as far as I
remember was the gear change cables?? had become loose. I think he had to access the gear lever
connections.

United Kingdom 2009 Freelander 2 TD4_e GS Manual Zermatt Silver

Check the linkage assembly on top of the gearbox. Lift out the air filter box for access. Now at the point when I learn something new something old is lost out the other side !
Now retired so it doesn't matter anymore.
Freelander now gone.

It looks ok but seems to be not going to right very well like its no clicking in if you know what I mean

I think it happened after the vehicle had been to a Main Dealer for the PTC? Heater recall. The assist guy said some parts
were not tightened correctly.
All this was 15+ years ago and my 81year old memory is not as it was.
