Coolant levels

My 2013 Freelander2, coolant level alert on display, on inspection found level just below minimum level (which I assume signals the alert) on the reservoir.
Topped-up and the after a few miles same thing, but never goes below the minimum level on the reservoir, but display comes on screen (which can be cleared on the OK button).
Obviously I must have a leak but no visible signs, confusing me is that the level never gets any lower then the minimum mark on the reservoir.
Can anybody guide me in the right direction to resolve this issue?

Try a new cap on the header tank.
Oh, and welcome to the forum.

Redbob- you have exactly same car as me Very Happy
Mine was due to faulty sensor (wire that goes under coolant header tank) which was replaced and all good.
However, if your coolant keeps dropping to just below minimum it probably isn't the sensor Confused

Yeah the built-in float for the level sensor is basically a sponge and will get soggy and not float after a few years (ten years for me). Just replace the entire coolant reservoir, the sensor that attaches to the bottom is probably still good, it's the float inside the tank that fails. Cheap and easy DIY.

Assuming your reservoir looks like this...

United Kingdom 2014 Freelander 2 SD4 Metropolis LE Auto Firenze Red

My last freelander kept flagging this up. Top up, slowly loose a bit over a few weeks.
I reckon it was the EGR cooler leacking ever so slowly.
A bottle of bars leaks or whatever equivalent stopped it and a trip as PX on my newer Metropolis solved the problem.
