For a 2006 TD4 manual you should expect to see an increase from 160bhp/420Nm to around 190bhp/450Nm at the very most,

The later TD4 was the same mechanically as the SD4 just had a detuned map (see graphs)

I would also add, it depends on the condition/wear in the transmission system as a whole

Am I right in thinking that to make full use of the extra power, the auto gearbox would need remapping, or is the gearbox clever enough to realise that you have an engine that revs productively to a higher figure, and adjust itself. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011) FL2 Metropolis SD4 Auto 2014 2017- (16k - 77k+ miles) (MY2015) Metro in its 11th Year of (Extended) LR Warranty / Full LR Service History (Expensive, but Trouble/Worry free - hopefully?) |

I have always been under the impression that there where differences to the spec (Turbo maybe) rather than it just being down to mapping changes. Sure I read of these at the time, can't be sure though memory isn't as sharp as it was so happy to be corrected. Andrew |

Looking at the power/torque curves it looks like the TD4 gets 'neutered' at just over 2000 rpm giving it quite a narrow peak torque It must make the SD4 so much easier to drive..??

A lot of the reliability is down to driving style and mechanical sympathy. As long as you are not driving as if its got 'launch control' or flogging it everywhere it would take a remap better torque and quite probably fuel economy. Plenty happy with my Sd4 power wise, wondered if a remap would help it's fuel economy but probably little gain and would be a long time breaking even cost wise. I may be wrong, but I thought that the FL2 limited the power in first as it was too much for the transmission. This implies that the gearbox talks to the engine management to say hold the horses, what happens with a chipped engine? Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her

You are most likely correct and a mapper would have to bear that in mind when writing a new map. Jules |
