Hey folks, it’s time to say goodbye (again). I have just seen my FL2 off after selling it on Motorway.

Absolutely love the car but it’s just too expensive for my commute and now that I have to access a low emission zone regularly it’s just not feasible. You have all been, as ever, super helpful here so thank you for all the help over the years.

For anyone considering selling theirs, this was my experience:

64 reg SD4 SE Tech auto with 66,000 miles on the clock. Excellent interior condition minus the steering wheel volume button being faulty. Outside was good, a few very minor scratches and supermarket dings.

Alloys were also good, with minor scuffs and a little corrosion around the valve.

WeBuyAnyCar quotes £8500 for perfect condition and once all the damage was added, £8000.

Motorway put a reserve price, taking condition into account, of £8800. And it sold for £9600. Dealer was not aware of the volume button issue (Motorway had deleted that oddly) but once they knew we agreed to knock £100 off. Dealer was based down south somewhere - I’m in Scotland.

The transport company came out this morning, as agreed, checked the car over, took it for a test drive, confirmed with the dealer it was as advertised and boom, money in my account.

A small amount more work involved but for significantly more money. Check them out if you’re thinking of selling. FL2 TD4 GS 60 reg Facelift - so many issues

I have the same car with 64K miles.

My calculated retained value was £9600 which is pretty close to what you achieved.
Based on a log curve that equates to 70% retained value at 3 years - very good IMO.


Im not selling - its running fine and I havent seen anything comparable to replace it with. Jules

I’ve gone back to the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV. Limited funds meant I took a 2015 model, but the battery is in good health. So much better for the journeys I do. FL2 TD4 GS 60 reg Facelift - so many issues

Enjoy the Outlander it should save you a bit on fuel. We sold our DS after an issue with the main ECU which we got sorted but my wife had lost faith in it, we got a really good deal on a Skoda Kodiaq which is a great replacement for the Fl2 and DS.  2009 FL2 TD4 SE (Sadly gone)

Have you noticed any big differences in driving the outlander compared to the fl2?

It’s a wonderful car, I have to say. Similar height to the FL2 so still excellent visibility. Significantly more space in the cockpit. It’s a very very quiet ride as well when it’s on pure electric. There’s more rear passenger leg room and the back seats fold properly flat for a huge boot space when needed. From my neighbours experience it’s also very capable in snow/ice conditions with 4wd which is important where I live. It doesn’t need an expensive charger installed at home - it runs fine off a normal socket.

Downsides are that it isn’t an SD4 Auto, so while it can leap out of a junction thanks to the instant torque of the electrics, it still won’t perform like the FL2 at higher speeds. When the petrol engine kicks in it is quite audible. It’s also not quite as premium a feel inside.

So far, based on my previous mileage on the FL2, which cost approximately 30p per mile (lots and lots of short journeys), these are now pure electric and cost about 9p per mile. When the petrol engine is running - ie on a longer run once the battery is done or if I’m flying up a hill, it runs at about 40mpg. Whilst that isn’t stellar, I don’t do a lot of long runs so the use case fits me well.

This one also has zero tax which is lovely. It’ll go up to £10 a year next year.

I’m sure as I get used to it I’ll find annoyances, but financially this was a no brainer.

Considering this car is 9 years old, the battery is in excellent health - I’m getting about 18 miles from a charge which although doesn’t sound like a lot, in reality is pretty much my commute to and from work plus collecting the kids from school. That charge costs about £1.80. And that is with the AC/heater on (which use electrics and this affect range).


Ultimately there’s no range anxiety so does not have the same concerns as a full electric vehicle. FL2 TD4 GS 60 reg Facelift - so many issues
