Hello and welcome. You can get a code reader on Amazon for around £40 or so that will at least start you on your way.

If it were the crankshaft sensor that was dead the engine would not start at all.

There is no inspection cover missing there, your battery cover will slot into that (unless you have a missing battery cover). |

Awesome, it has 2 openings, does the battery cover, cover both of them? And it’s a missing cover, needing to get one ordered

depending where you are in Durham, there is a bloke in Shildon on FB Marketplace breaking a Freelander 2, may be worth a try seeing if he has the battery cover for sale |
