Reversing camera field of view?

Will a reversing camera located either beside a number plate light or in the handle of the tail gate show the tow ball to make hooking up to a trailer less of a guessing game?

It depends how far out your towbar sticks.
I was going to put a number plate light camera in mine
but when I checked using a straight edge there was
no line of sight from the number plate light to the tow ball.
I ended up putting my camera next to the tow ball.
It's absolutely brilliant for millimetre precision trailer hitching,
but of very limited use for much else.

Thanks, Sparky. I was thinking that one mounted in the bumper might do the trick as well as give a decent view behind. More research needed.

The standard camera is set up to show the top of the LR top ball. Just.

Personally, I can get the ball within 5 to 10mm of the centre of the hitch.
Now, if I just had hydraulic suspension like my other car, then hitching would be pretty much hands-free.[/url]

Many thanks, Vanny, that looks to be exactly what I’m looking for. I don’t have the LR screen to connect a genuine camera to so the question is, do the inexpensive after market cameras have the same field of view I wonder?

reverse camera

Our 13reg has the Landrover reverse camera/sat nav that you can select from the screen to have blocks across the screen showing how near to whatever you are approaching, or just a clear screen to look at where you are reversing to; or specifically for trailer hitching , a long straight line from towbar to target. It is great , drive right under the towbar no bother. But, it makes you crap at reversing because with the 90's, 110,s , Disco 1 and 2's we have had I got used to being able to concentrate, estimate, see, and know exactly how far back I needed to be and had the energy to give the trailer a slight rock or pull into position. Then we got a Disco 3 that I could drop the suspension and lift it back up when under the towbar and now I am too old to twist my head around or rock the trailer, along comes this camera trick. great for old codgers!
