Power steering

The power steering pipe at rack end has corroded, lost oil now parked up.
Got the assembly LR029185 almost looks like a set of bagpipes.
Great delivery from LRparts.
Reading up on fitting this seems to be a major operation in trying to fit this pipe to the one coming down from the pump.
Would it be better to also replace the pipe from the pump to make assembly and fitting easier?
I bow to superior knowledge.

Don't know about superior knowledge, more a case of it's easy once you know how. and a hell of a lot easier to do than describe in words.

I used a pair of round hose pliers.

The holding connection is a plastic ring that needs to be pushed up to release it but it has to be pushed up as a complete ring no use trying say a screwdriver. There lies the problem. The pipe from the bottle needs to be disconnected to ease the upward push.

You can get aircon pipe disconnectors to do the job but as I say I used round hose pliers.

The closest I have seen to the connector is in this movie of a GM brake line connector, it's not exactly the same but it should give an idea of the plastic ring on the break bottle pipe.

The ring needs to be pushed up to release the pipe. Look at the movie from 2.50 mins to 4 mins. The tool they made resembles the plastic air con line disconnectors in a previous post.
