The previous owner of my 2010 GS has fitted a Garmin 55LM satnav in the dashboard cubby hole. It's a decent fit and doesn't move about and works really well.
The only downside is that it's been hardwired in and comes on as soon as the ignition is turned on. I'd like to fit an auxiliary on off switch in the power supply cable, which is fairly straightforward, but my question is, how/ where can I mount the switch without spoiling the original look of the dashboard?

As I haven't got all the toys that feature on the more upmarket models, such as heated seats, I'd hoped there might be a blanked switch aperture or two, somewhere on the dash that I could use to install a switch, but I'm struggling to find one.

Any suggestions as to the best place to install an auxillary switch would be appreciated.

I have a very much similar Garmin in mine. Although mine has an on/off switch on the very top of the unit in top left hand side
With ignition on the sat nav comes on and I can turn it off by depressing the switch for 3-5 seconds.

Could you perhaps fit a small push button switch in the little coin tray in front of your sat nav screen?

If no one can offer a better suggestion, the little coin tray is the place of last resort.

Taking the satnav out of the cubby hole so I can access the power button and press it for 3-5 seconds is a two-handed faff that I really don't want to be bothered with, every time I turn the ignition on.
The satnav battery doesn't appear to hold much charge as it switches itself off within seconds of the ignition being turned off.

On previous cars I have mounted rarely used 'out of sight' switches on steering column cowl.

Its easy to split and hide any wiring, and the switch is convenient to use (if not to see). FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)

I have mounted a round push button switch on the side of the centre gear stick console. Sort of to the left of the drivers knee.

Driving home this evening and looking at where a switch might be fitted it seemed that a push button could be neatly fitted to the panel immediately above the screen

How often do you want to use it?

Most of the cars I do instal work on get a discrete switch fitted down by the OBD port. Sufficiently out of the way not to get kicked, but reachable by the driver. Might be a faff if turning on/off regularly. Once removed the hole gets a rubber bung in it and I'm yet to find anyone who has noticed it's not a factory bung!

I've you don't mind the voltage drop, there are some excellent places in the roof console for a couple of switches.
