Front Brakes

A long story. So I will shorten it.!
I am considering doing a full front brake job on my daughter's Freelander2 2014.

What size spanner to remove flexible brake pipe from the caliper.?
And will I need a flare spanner... All other tools I have.
Thanks R

I replaced all my flexible hoses recently, together with the caliper carriers when I upgraded the front brakes and used ordinary sockets and spanners.
If you've got a reasonable toolkit then you'll probably have a metric spanner that fits. My open ended spanners go from 6mm to 24mm - it was one of those but which I cant remember.

Welcome BTW Jules

Thanks. yes I have a reasonably good toolkit. But dont have any "flare"-spanners.
So it would seem from what you say that a normal open ended one will do the job.
Just wondered how tight(!) they can be, and if a flare(ring) type spanner may have been necessary.
Thanks a lot. !

I dont see how you could attach a torque wrench to a brake pipe fitting so I dont know if torque values are quoted. So I nip the connections up and check for weeping when bleeding the brakes.

Not done this but maybe one way to get a feel for the torque required using a specific spanner it to put a torque wrench in a vice and turn a suitable bolt using that spanner until the it clicks at say 20Nm Jules

My reading on these spanners is that cheap flare spanners tend to open up and round off the flats because they dont have much wall thickness compare to an open ended spanner. Jules

Probably a misundertsanding... I have no intention of using a torque wrench on the union.
Just wondering how difficult( tight) it might be to get it off!
Thanks
