I've got the itch!

I've got an itch only a new Land Rover can scratch!
I'm going to trade in the old trusty 2011 LR2 HSE LUX for a new LR.
I'm leaning toward the Discovery; should I get the diesel or the petrol?

If your in the US then I think you only have the option of a petrol engine!

I have a petrol Freelander with the Ford 2.0L ecoboost engine. No complaints in outback Australia even though diesel is overwhelmingly the most used full.

I do put RON98 in it when it's available, it gives longer range & it is better fuel with less sulphur. I intend on keeping the car as long as possible. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

It’s a completely different engine from that used in the later Discovery Sport or D5 Regards

Lovely i6 has now gone, but not me......

Please let me know if anything in my post offends you, as I may wish to offend you again......

United States 2011 LR2 i6 HSE Lux Auto Fuji White

Thanks for the replies!
I'm looking at the full size Discovery, not the sport.
They tell me it is the replacement for the LR4.
I've found them with either the Turbo Diesel 6 or the Petrol 6 Supercharged.

The TD6 versions I've found have the interior color I want but I've never owned a diesel.
The diesel gets better fuel economy but in the states there's about a 20 cent extra cost per gallon in taxes for diesel, plus it's my understanding a diesel engine service costs more than petrol so I wonder if the added fuel economy is washed out by the extra tax and maintenance.

I guess I need someone to tell me the TD6 will last and hold up as good as the petrol.
Another question is should I just stretch and go for the RR Sport?
I appreciate your input

I', going to have to go with the petrol 6 supercharged just because......... Thumbs Up Bow down

Do your research on the supercharged 6 and the entire drive train is my advice.

If you are doing a lot of miles then the diesel would be my choice.
It shouldn't cost more to service, no spark plugs to replace, oil and filters just as the petrol will need.
The extra fuel economy will outweigh the additional fuel cost.
Unless....as in the UK diesels are now considered to be the work of the devil by government and politicians and they are doing everything possible to make them unattractive, including banning non compliant older cars from cities etc. A brand new one will meet current regulations but for how long? Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948

I'm scheduled to pick up my 2017 Discovery tomorrow!
I chose the turbo diesel.
I learned that the TD6 is made by Ford in the Dagenham plant.

I drove the LR2 for the last time tonight and I felt sad to be letting her go.
She was special and served me well and hopefully she will please the new owner that finds her at the dealer!
