Low brake pads

Hi all I wonder what your thoughts would be on

Had the car serviced 9/8/21 at 67272 miles, wife complained of noise from front brakes beginning of Oct at 68928 miles.

So had a look and pads were just touching disk. So pads down to next to noting in just over a month and 1000 miles ish

Now the mot advised low pads, but service didn't mention it and nothing noted on service record.
MOT and service at same dealer on same day. Ball joint was replaced at same time as this was a fail

Am I right in feeling cheesed off, by the look of the pads I'd be surprised if they were even looked at

Should i have taken action on the mot advisory. Must admit didn't really read it properly as we were a bit rushed to get home and was glad service and mot all sorted

See attached photos

Put it down to experience and take notice of MoT test advisories….

…. I'd have expected the dealer to report on the pads during the Free 'Let's see what extras we can flog this valued customer' Check (Free Health Check in dealer speak) and seize the opportunity to flog you (the genuinely needed) new pads though.

Yeh, kind of my thoughts, but if I didn't have the MOT I possibly would have been none the wiser or when the brakes started grinding . Would have expected the dealer to have inspected the brakes and reported on the service.

Not all main dealers are also MOT stations and simply take the car elsewhere for the MOT .

An Indy near me does all the MOTs for the local LR , Jaguar, Audi and Mercedes main dealers. His is an old oily, brick garage, around the back and out of sight of the bling bling main dealer showrooms. I bet most of the customers think their cars are being MOT'd at the main dealers and not his place. Jules

Yes the dealer didn't MOT but was booked through them same day as service. Looks like mot place picked up low pads but was missed by LR on service. Really surprising as it's usually one of their quick mark ups to say 'brakes need replacing'

Did you ask the dealer why they did not check the pads during the service ? Moving forward if I were you I would start looking for another garage to take care of the car.

I wonder if they sent it for the MOT first with the intention of not doing a full inspection but only attending to things flagged at the MOT - but missed the advisory this time. Jules

I used to go on a BMW 3 series forum . The early E90 3 litre diesels had an air filter which was really awkward to get at and took a lot of labour for a service item.
A forum member had regularly taken his car to a local garage for annual servicing thinking he was getting a personalised service as they had been used by his family for many years. An event caused him to discover that the air filter had never been changed - it was the original packed with leaves and dust. He was stunned and disappointed.

I'm sad to say I mark my oil and air filters if they are being changed by a garage instead of me. Jules

Further 'investigation' has shown that the pads were on the safety check and marked as amber - meaning won't last until next service- Also marked on dealer records as replacement refused by customer. So mech did his job
It looks as if a miscommunication took place as the only call we had was to replace faulty ball joint that was mot fail.
No recollection from wife or self of being informed at pick up of car or phone call or refusing brake replacement for that matter.

Lesson learnt- make sure I read all paper work don't rely on being verbally informed . Hold my hands up Embarassed

Fair enough.
The important thing is that you got the pads sorted. Jules

I check the pads myself round about every month or two.

Those pads needed changing ages ago i would say at least 4 months or more ago, i do a visual check on all my discs and pads every month when i take the wheel off to clean inside of them.

I would not be surprised if the disc as been damaged ? or at least scored.
