i use a CTEK MX5 on my Freelander 2 and charge it through the live socket behind the handbrake using the cigarette lighter adaptor. There is no issue I'm aware of charging with the battery connected which i do on my D4. |

I also use a CTEK but with trailing lead from battery, definitely no need to remove battery terminals. |

My son keeps his classic 1996 Porsche in our garage with a CTEK MX5 attached. He is away for months at at time and it just sits there trickling away, it goes through the indicator lights slowly then after about 10 days of inactivity the second green light comes on (whatever that means) . Seems to do the trick, I start it up every couple of months and it fires up no problem. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

Another vote for CTEK, I keep my Jaguar XKR topped up with one as it doesn't get much use these days. Two Optimates on my ride on mowers, and a collection of Lidl chargers for everything else. Great value and longevity in my opinion. |

I have a Victron 10 amp Bluetooth charger. If I bought another one I would get the 15 amp model.

If you are using the car a few times a week why not just buy a fresh new battery, if you are using the car it will be fine when I first read your post I thought the car would be sat weeks on end. |

Probably fine for trickle charge for battery mx, but if the battery gets low you could possibly overload that circuit. Might compare the max current for that circuit (ie the fuse) with the max output of your charger. If possible, select a charge current no too much more than about half of what the fuse is rated for. A dedicated lead (or a trailer tow connector) would be ideal. But probably the worst that would happen would be a blown fuse. |
