That's disappointing, I hope they do respond.
I have just noticed though, where you refer to the timing chain instructions on the Gates website (if we are looking at the same thing) that is a dropdown box and the other option is for the timing belt which may add a little more info to the mix.

I think I've got the answer. NO SEALANT on either O ring or rubber coated Gates gaskets.

Someone on lrukforums.com kindly found this tech bulletin pdf on a different Gates website.
