Steering Wheel Lock

Tonight, for the second time, I got a 'steering wheel lock' warning and the car refused to start. I managed to overcome it by disconnecting the battery for 10 minutes, which re-set the logic and it started ok. This is ok for a temporary fix but is it indicative of something more serious?

When it happens again, move the steering wheel a little and try again.
It's possible that the steering wheel is tensioned a little and the electronic lock is unable (or doesn't have enough force) to release the lock.

Thanks, but the steering wheel was central and no where near to getting accidentally locked. It's something to do with the electrics registering the lock incorrectly, which is why disconnecting the battery was able to reset the logic. I don't mind doing it once in a blue moon but I'm concerned that his is going to become more frequent.

Perhaps this is a software upgrade you haven't had, or something similar Exclamation

Thanks EYorks,
That's the assumption of the Landrover specialist who I've got it booked in with on Friday. It would be good if it's a software load as the alternatives sound quite expensive. I'll update after it's been looked at.

Software downloaded, now to wait and see if it's done the trick! Not sure but I wasn't charged for the effort, so that's what I call good service!

Nope! Didn't cure it so next step is to replace the ignition fob mount.
