I gave up on the armrests for the moment and replaced the air intake pipe with a flexible pipe that has ‘memory’ and holds its shape. It has the advantage that it’s slightly larger diameter (76mm dia) that the original although the air flow meter is restrictive (70mm dia).

There is a fair stretch of plumbing from the quarter panel intake to the bottom of the air filter box. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

Yeah, it’s unlikely to make much difference - I’m pretty sure the later car intake pipe doesn’t have the ‘panpipes’. I’m pleased to have ditched the spring clips holding the hose in place, as they were a pain to remove. Particularly if stuck by the side of the road. |

You're right. My 2013 SD4 does not have the panpipes. Anyone know what purpose they serve? |
