Ive cured the radio 3 minute shutdown low battery warning

I have a 2014 FL2 HSE i bought used from a dealer it always had a battery 3 min shut down warning when the engine was shut off but the radio on i kept charging the battery but it did not cure it . Then one day it refused to turn over as the original LR battery was dead I bought a new battery from the RAC as they supplied and fit it at my home with a 5 year warranty i mentioned the radio low battery problem and was told the new battery would solve the problem IT DID i can now wash the car with the radio on with no warning of low battery the rac chap said its a common LR problem which is cured with a new battery

It's not a LR problem, it is modern car energy management.

You will get 7 more minutes. About 3 cycles in total, then the low voltage warning.

A four year old battery is on borrowed time. On the top of the battery there will be a date stamp WWYY, so you can see which week of that year it was manufactured. Count down starts from this day.

I have jump started a few cars out here due to low batteries, no phone service to call up help.

I had a new battery when I bought the car as it was on its way out now almost three years on I get the message and stop start hasnt worked for ages, simply the batteries take a hammering and if you do not use it enough thhis will happen, I dont use mine enough so I trickle it every week or so to put some charge in it. Pity I thought you had a real answer to the problem Laughing 2014 Freelander 2 XS TD4

One neighbour, his battery in a new Honda lasted 2 years, one cell died. I lent him my previous Land Rover (Exide) battery & a spare set of old welding jumper leads.

Another neighbour's Tiguan they replaced a battery a second time, after 3 years, the battery gave up the ghost. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

7 years is pretty good for any car battery, having said that we had a Golf TDI which we sold at 11 years old with 113000 miles still on its original battery Bow down Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948

Was it the correct AGM Battery? as a good battery should last a bit more than 3 yrs even if your not using it and keeping it charged. 2013 FL2 XS.

The battery in my previous Honda Accord lasted 11 years before replacement was needed, the battery on my Civic is well in to its 7th year (still on original battery) and shows no signs of deterioration whatsoever.

I have just changed the battery in my FL2 - (which came to me last year) was on original battery and is stop start equipped (previous owner I assume did not switch it off).

I believe the trick to NOT killing batteries is to disable stop start as the 2nd job after starting the engine on any vehicle equipped with stop start - also benefits longevity of the starter and engine as a whole.

Stop start is a really bad idea IMHO 2014 Freelander 2 TD4 Manual Dynamic

Yes it was, just had it checked and its still good but the charge reduces if not used enough for the warning to come on although it will start fine, I was told by someone at LR that the stop start is very voltage and battery condition critical and only works when that criteria is met, you can drive a lot of miles for the battery to get to optimal performance as the modern cars charge a bit different with the BMS these days! As I hate Stop Start its no pain for me Wink 2014 Freelander 2 XS TD4

I also dislike the stop start, I keep it turned off all the time perhaps thats why my battery has lasted so long? 2013 FL2 XS.

Yes it's a bit of a pain.
Once a month I have an hour wait in the car for my wife to come out of an appointment. When I listen to the radio with ignition off I get the 3 minute warning, despite the fact that my battery is only a year old ( Varta F18 ), starts no problem every time and before my radio session has just completed an 85 mile run.
Is there any way to get round this warning and subsequent cut off? Surely JLR expect people to use the infotainment when the ignition is off? What would happen if I sit with the ignition turned on ? FL2 SD4 XS 2013 Orkney Grey
