Tailgate opening

Hi - starting here with a really dumb question. Should my facelift 2011 FL2 have a a tailgate that opens automatically when you press the button on the remote or the 2 buttons on the dash? My 2017 Audi A4 avant does this - i.e. the tailgate opens fully when you press the button. But on the FL2 all you get is the latch popping a bit and you have to open manually. I replaced the gas struts in case that was the problem but no difference. Am I expecting too much? If not what do I need to fix or replace?

Auto tailgate was never offered as an option on the Freelander, but a few have exchanged the struts & put a switch at the driver's door frame. It's one of the easier modifications you can do, also without having to recode the car. Just do a search. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!
