'Slip' and noise on gear change up - Auto

Hi All - Advice please

I recently purchased a 2007 TD4 HSE Auto. I've noticed that on gear change up (with regular acceleration) the car makes an odd 'yap, yap, yap, yap' noise and there is a slight retardation in acceleration / drive... until it seems to 'catch' the drive. only lasts a second or so and doesn't seem to happen when I'm heavy on the acceleration or very light on it. Might not happen / happen less from cold.

I tried the 'engine on but not started foot down on the accelerator for 30' procedure but still there.
Also pulled the Haldex fuse out and it still yapped.

Gearbox oil was done March 2018 from receipts and only done 30,000 miles since then. 104,000 total miles done.

Looked through threads and a myriad of similar issues and a range of suggested causes from turbo, to pressure dump to auto gearbox flush and oil change to the auto box..

Im planning to get the auto box flushed and oil changed along with the PTU... But wondering if anyone could perhaps pinpoint the issue?

Thanks in advance!

Andy

Hi Andy,
Are you absolutely sure you're not "slightly" lifting off the accelerator at the
point of gearbox change? DAVE.

been doing a bit more research... seems like its a 'variable geometry turbo' issue and fairly common by the looks... sorry Im late to the party.

What does not seem apparent is a fix as such... Anyone know of any successful fixes?

Cheers!

Andy

I had a similar issue with a 2009 Auto. Mine tended to occur when I had parked for a short time then continued my journey. I had an engine clean done.

Re-conditioned turbo and fitting was £8-900 so I decided to try a clean first (£160). Completely transformed how mine drove and cured the problem. Something for you to consider.

Cheers Labradorslave! What sort of price does a forte engine clean come in at?

I’m guessing 160 quid Mr. Green

SYFL2 is correct-£160😁 It is a lot of money and not guaranteed to work. On the upside it cleans right through the engine. The difference in performance before and after the clean was obvious. In all honesty I was very sceptical before I had mine done but I can’t argue with the results👍I trust the specialist I use and he was fairly sure it would sort mine. The control arm was also stiff on my turbo so that may of contributed to the problem. The specialist recommended flooring it periodically to make sure the arm and vanes in the turbo mechanism move to their extreme points of travel. Worth a visit to a Forte Service Centre to get an opinion before splashing out on a new turbo.

Thanks! £160 not too steep - especially if it has a notable difference on performance.

Was doing some more research and found this... Possible 'Throttle Pedal Track Wear' - a replacement seemed to fix the issue...

Any thoughts?

Mine seemed to be a little sluggish when you pressed the accelerator at low revs. I had the same thought process as you. After the clean the accelerator response was instant so I think my problems were all related to carbon buildup in the turbo and associated lines.
