Tyre change

Having read all the posts on here and now with square eyes, need some guidance.
Intend to replace the four road tyres by September.
Still have 4mm at present.there is a new Scorpion in the boot.
Tyre is dated 2014.
Lends me to go Pirelli. Thoughts on Scorpions please.
Thanks Jim A

Maybe keep the current Scorpion as your spare. I'm running Scorpion ATR, I think Lightwater has AT+.
So there are Scorpions and Scorpions.
I've been very happy with my ATR - great on road in the dry and in the wet. I never feel like I'm skating or they are going to let go. Wear has been great too - after three years I haven't lost a lot of tread depth. Off road they are fine for most of what I have done so far, if I was going to do more serious offroad stuff I'd probably have a different vehicle.
They are now old, though, so I will be changing. Nothing against the Pirellis, I could easily use another set, but I'm looking for slightly more offroad oriented tyres.
So, you firstly need to identify what kind of terrain you use your vehicle for, then work out which Scorpion you may want. MY11 SD4 SE Auto

Scorpions are ok but for all round performance and good mileage I fitted BF Goodrich Urban terrains will last forever quiet on road excellent traction on snow and off road, lot of U tube videos on these have a look for yourself . 2013 FL2 XS.

I have a similar aged car I had to change the tyres due to age cracking not tread, I bought 3 Wranglers as the spare is the same on an alloy and unused, no age degradation due to never seeing the sun, in fact it probably blinked when I took it out Smile So I checked it fully visually and it was fine. 2014 Freelander 2 XS TD4

Been reading a lot about tyres. The tyre in the boot is a scorpion zero.
Will get my tyr guy to check it out and as suggested keep as a spare.
99% will be on road with any off road work being on forestry roads.
Like the look and reports on the Scorpion Verde.
In contrast the last two sets of tyres on my Discovery 2 were Chinese.
Fist set did 45k before change and second set had only done 4K when I sold it.
Very open minded about tyres, annual mileage is now about 4/5k.
Not in a rush yet.
Great info coming through

My car came to me with Scorpion Zero All round plus a Chinese brand new spare.
Ran them down to 3 mm.
Never go off road but live in cold wet country area.Eventually decided on Scorpion Verde All Season, sold the Chinese and kept the best Zero as a spare.
There are Scorpion Zero, Scorpion Zero All Season, Scorpion Verde and Scorpion Verde All Season.!!! and the guides are not much help.
The ones I went for are 107 load and V speed rate, and JLR approved whatever that means.
I used to find my steering a little light and the new tyres do seem to have weighted things up a bit - stiffer sidewalls?
price reasonable at about £120 each fully fitted. I used E Tyres and it worked very well.

So far so good. TBH if you go for a premium brand then you won't go wrong. Tyres aren't the thing to penny pinch on. FL2 SD4 XS 2013 Orkney Grey

Don’t think the OP is looking to penny pinch if he’s considering Scorpions.
There’s nothing more subjective than tyre choice.
In the end it could just come down to the best deal. Even ‘best’ is subjective!
I run V rated Scorpion Verde All Season on mine, 19” rims, no off roading.
I’m happy enough with them, they’ve never given me cause for concern and I do drive a bit on the hard side, but when it comes time to change it’ll depend on what’s on offer.

It hurts when you have one good spare then changing size & it's 6 wheels at a time. The price of the Australian outback, 2 spares. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

Literally just ordered 4 Michelin Cross Climate tyres 235x60x18 103v from ATS to be fitted at their local tyre centre inclusive of balance etc for £488. They are offering a 10% on line discount from the gross price plus a further £50 for buying 4 tyres (£25 for 2 tyres ) which represents about £108 discount. Happy bunny. MY 09 GS manual in Lago Grey, Wood Co arm rest and side bumper strips - now sold.

Hi,
considering where you live (OP) and avrg mileage, I would be considering tyres that are "Winter" rated,
along the lines of
AT3's, Yoko's or as Tenet above Mich CC

and agree with all the above, its a shame not to use that spare but its not the main consideration.

Thumbs Up .
my first ever FL2 and I did keep it longer than most other cars!
But its now gone way up Norf

Replaced Scorpion Zeros with CrossClimates in January having previously had them for many years on my Subaru Forester.

Being fitted Wednesday and like you Sid are replacing scorpio zero's. Spec says they are quieter as the SZ's are making a lot of road noise as they wear. MY 09 GS manual in Lago Grey, Wood Co arm rest and side bumper strips - now sold.
