Convert Td4 to Sd4?

A theoretical technical question - could a complete Sd4 190bhp engine be fitted to an auto Td4 and what would be involved in changing the engine and gearbox ECUs?

I lot of code would need changing.

Another car would be easier. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

Thanks. I suspected it wouldn’t be a straightforward swap!

For the extra 30bhp wouldn't it be easier to go to one of the tuning specialists?

Just been on the Celtic tuning site and they are advertising 157bhp upgrade to 199bhp, certainly a lot easier than swapping engines and re-coding ECUs Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her

To be honest, my question wasn’t prompted just by a desire for more power but rather, if I were to want to fit a replacement engine at some point in the future, could I swap to the Sd4. I’m particularly fond of the colour scheme of my car which seems to be relatively uncommon (Rimini Red with beige interior, including door cards) so would seriously consider a reconditioned exchange engine should it prove necessary rather than just replace the car. Idle speculation at this time, and it’s clear the upgrade wouldn’t be easy. Even a tuning chip would raise concerns as the auto box seems to be at or near its torque limit and I understand the Sd4 limits the torque in the lower gears.

I have the Si4 2.0L petrol engine. It only has 340Nm torque & 177kW. The power has been nice on the very rare occasion quick off at the lights. But really for normal driving one doesn't need all the kW.

Torque has been enough on sand & other difficult off-road situations with the car fully loaded.

If you like the car keep it. Red ones go faster anyway! Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!
