Sheared stud mystery

Morning folks,
I just dropped the under engine protection cover on my March 2013 TD4 and found the stud in pic sitting there!
I've had a bit of a look around but can't see where its come from, any ideas? It was clean and dry as is in the pic and there have been no significant fluid leaks anywhere. Strange that I haven't heard it rattling around while driving.. would appreciate any suggestions. Cheers.

The stud looks very similar to a thermostat stud, not sure about the spacer though.

Lucky it didn't bounce up into the timing belt and pulleys as well. Check your trays..!
