Interesting. Mine has not leaked from the get go.

Motion,

I don't think the comparison is exactly fair.

Stud size Recommended torque Clamping force
.....M6............4 ft-lbs.......................500 lbs
.....M8............9 ft-lbs.......................900 lbs
.....M10..........20 ft-lbs....................1500 lbs

Comparing your M10 to my M8 isn't exactly apples to apples.

Having said that I do think that is is fair to state that the M10 will be more forgiving for sealing the surface due to the greater clamping force.

I did think that I was going to have to drill out the threads and go to M10 but the O-ring has provided a very good seal and I am happy with the M8 now.

Take care

Paul

Motion,

No worries.

The M8 fits nicely in this location.

It looks like it came that way from the factory.

I am surprised that the PTU doesn't shed metal like the rear differential. I only collected a very small amount of metal dust so far. By comparison I would estimate that my Rear Differential is about 50X as much metal (which I have collected over the past 7 years)

For reference my Wife's BMW rear differential shed just as much metal as my LR2. I installed a magnet for her car based on what I've learned at FREEL2. The BMW forums don't talk about pinion bearings but that doesn't mean that they last 300K miles.

Thanks

Paul
