ulez

Hello all, just wondering how you lot in outer London are getting on with the dreaded ulez charge.
I'm in Orpington right on the edge of the zone, have kept the freelander 2 but had to buy a cheap petrol corsa to run about localy, I'm a big bloke, not easy getting in/out of the corsa , just hopeing things will change May next year...Same subjet , my friend has a freelander 2 ,older than mine, and tey live right in the zone but because they have a private No plate the ulez website dosnt recognise it, it says this car shoud be compliant..Theyve not recieved any fines as yet....any thoughts?? mike

Your friends are very lucky Thumbs Up I have heard of another scenario as well, my mate has a 2004 VW Type 4 diesel van. It was originally registered in NI but he reregistered it here, when he puts its details in it says compliant.

Having said that our 2013 HSE is on private plates but from the off has always shown as non compliant, fortunately because its registered as Disabled RFL (my Wife) its exempt until late 2027.

What my friend does is occasionally take a screen shot from the online checker should anything arrive in the post. You could of course change the registered keeper to Mr Khan and carry on using it yourself Rolling with laughter 2007 TD4 XS The work horse that earns its up keep

My I6 was ULEZ compliant, the person that bought it was going to use it in London.

My TD4 isn't, and had to pay when we visited Wembley after the boundary changed.

For me it's not a big deal, as London is a holiday destination only now I've moved to the southwest. Hyundai Ioniq 5 Ultimate. The family car.

But ULEZ is not just London. I understand there are ULEZ in Manchester, Glasgow ........

I live in the rural countryside and only use lanes and motorway.

Bristol, Bath both have LEZ’s for some vehicles. Nicely, the M32 dumps you into the Bristol LEZ as does the signposted route to Lulsgate (Bristol) airport.

Glasgow is the dearest at £60, first time then keeps doubling.
One idiot councillor even proposed that the LEZ should include part of the M8 beside the current LEZ.

Currently the ULEZ in Greater Manchester is "under review" so no charging at present. But it is coming, cameras are in and waiting.

When it does come into effect it is proposed that it doesn't include private cars. But Buses, HGVs, Taxis and VANS !! are subject to a charge if not Euro 6 compliant. So the local plumber / joiner / has the option of buying a newer van or an old Volvo estate.

Don't get me started on the fact that the vast majority of the county is well below the pollution level that requires action to be taken. And Yes Greater Manchester is now a county, I was born in Lancashire, still live in the same town but am now a Manc Censored Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her

Non-London clean air zones in England

https://www.gov.uk/guidance/driving-in-a-clean-air-zone

Bath C
Birmingham D
Bradford C
Bristol D
Portsmouth B
Sheffield C
Tyneside (Newcastle and Gateshead)

SD4 has to pay in B'Ham and Bristol. OK in Bradford unless registered as a van (which some FL2s were)

also

If we have to have Clean Air Zones why can't they all have the same, easily understood, regulations.
I find it all very confusing and avoid Bristol and Bath like the plague.

Surely the Government should have a national policy with one set of rules, instead of forcing the various Local Councils into making up their own restrictions.
Also why can't safe routes around these Zones be well signposted, well in advance of the Zone Signs.
From what I can see Bristol has several routes that send you unsuspecting drivers through corners of the CAZ.

Well I'm at it, Why can't we have a centralized policy (with ONE SAFE authorised way of paying) for the growing Parking and EV Charging Systems.

Every thing seems to be getting more and more complicated and therefore easier to scam money out of people.

We badly need some leadership. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)

At least London has a decent Public Transport System, elsewhere bus services have been cut by to the minimum or are now non existent .
Be careful what you wish for. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)

I’m with Ian on this. If it’s an LEZ it should have the same regulations, the same payment system, the same penalty system and the same ability to preregister your vehicle so that you pay the charge for entering the LEZ rather than the fine for failing to pay the charge that you may not have realised you were due to pay.
I’m afraid the national road authorities are responsible for the poor signage around Bristol and the Government are the people who pressurised Marvin Reece (Mayor of Bristol and spender of my rates on hare brained schemes) to include the Cumberland Basin system within the LEZ
I’ll also back his call for an all encompassing app for paying for parking nationally. All it takes is for a script kiddy to come up with a dummy parking app and and to paste some strategically placed QR code stickers and they they’ve got a money making scheme ready to rip off anyone who isn’t familiar with whatever app the local money chargers have decided to use.
