Hope your all well and all that waffle.

Having recently got my first freelander 2, I have been itching to start personalising it. So, I have been looking at tyres and I have in the past gone for the likes of General Grabbers AT's and such like. But I like the look of the Goodyear Wrangler Duratracs - however I can only get these on 255/55/19, with my current normal set being 235/55/19.

In my head I'm fairly certain it'll be close but doable, opinions very much appreciated please folks?

Of course, it's all relative as I plan to fit spacers and lift the car anyway, so clearance won't be so much an issue at that point.

Welcome Hagar, without wanting to hijack your post, I run mine on Pirelli Scorpion Zeros being the OEM tyre I believe. I might need to replace all four especially if we get a bad spell of weather this year and thought about switching to something such as GGs which I know have been recommended on here. However, I'm wondering how that sort of deeper tread pattern would fare with me living in Sarf-East London and being constantly on metalled roads; apart from crossing a muddy National Trust car park the car is very rarely off road.
Keeping a separate set of tyres is not a viable option.

Cheers, I have had plenty of success in the past on my Disco's with GG's and I think depending on the type you go for, AT's/AT3's wouldn't be too bad. But, that's just my opinion. I am sure there will be plenty of arguments against it.

The other GG is Gt 105 I think, but I can't really comment on it as I have never used one myself.

I've run GGs of most varieties over the last 12 years on a Discovery 2 (AT2 and AT) and on the Freelander 2 , (AT3). Almost exclusively on tarmac I find them hard wearing, robust and provide decent grip wet or dry. Also use the GG GT on my wife's VW Tiguan, again an excellent tyre. I can't fault any if them, they're a decent price and look great also. I sing their praises so much I should be on commission. Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948

Thanks Bob for that; I was a bit concerned the GG might be a bit too 'off-road' for everyday Sarf London, but clearly not

I copied one of my previous posts ---- I hope this helps ---

After 6 years and 50k miles I decided to fit some new tyres. MOT had signalled only 3+mm on 2 tyres and I had about 4+mm on the other two fitted, (and another damaged - see below in my garage)

The mileage was helped by using all 5 tyres that had been supplied in rotation, although one had to be retired early due to cut in wall. (I have a 6th wheel which I use as a spare)

As winter was coming on I decided on Pirelli Scorpion Zero tyres 235/55 R19 105V (Volvo, Extra Load, All Season)
I chose these V rating as they had a very good record for wet grip, and reasonable noise and MPG figures.

In Somerset we have far more rain than snow in winter, and these tyres, with multiple groves and sipes in tread pattern, should shift the water on the road.

The price for 4 was £550(fitted, balanced, valves etc), which I thought was reasonable.

You can pay more for internal foam in these tyres to cut noise further, but I thought that these tyres were quieter on my run home, steering was certainly lighter and more direct.

Perhaps I should play the safe game then with AT3's.

Internal foam ? Never heard of this, please explain.  3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

These are 255/60r18 but it is the gap with the rear shocks that is the issue.

I read about foam filled tyres a few days ago on an Audi forum I frequent - so yes it's also a road based option.
Apparently it's just a layer of foam on the inside of the tyre circumference.
The poster was asking if they were able to have a puncture repaired in them.
Opinions varied from no, to yes, but with a section of the foam removed to gain access to the tyre carcass.
