A switch at the pedal tells the PCM that the engine isn't connected to the rest of the drive train, so the vehicle won't move when the start button is pressed. All start button systems require the clutch to be down, or the auto gearbox be in park. It's a safety system, and the vehicle wouldn't pass any type approval if it could suddenly move, on an accidental button press. Hyundai Ioniq 5 Ultimate. The family car.

Based on the electrical schematic, it's a simple mechanical switch.

Thanks, I'll keep them under observation as the car some times won't start untill I press twice or more the clutch pedal. Maybe it can be bypassed in case of emergency. |

The two problems I had with the car not starting is, the first time, nothing showed on the dashboard when the key was inserted. It looked like the battery was dead. The RAC guy could not find any reason why this happened. Even a diagnostic check didn't reveal anything. The second time, everything showed on the dashboard, but depressing the clutch didn't start the engine. After trying a few times, a message stated 'depress the clutch' and then it started. I am now worried that I could be parked up somewhere, especially offroad when I'm out shooting, and the bloody car won't start again. I really don't know what to do for the best. |

Yes when you’re out shooting outside the bank you need the car to start Seriously with the message about the clutch could it be the switch that tells the ECU it’s depressed ? |

The problem is, as mentioned, the first time, nothing showed up on the dashboard when the 'key' was inserted in the dock, and the RAC guy could not find anything wrong. When a low loader was sent to pick my vehicle up to take to a garage, the bloody thing started! The second time, ignition light etc showed on the dashboard, but it wouldn't start. After a few tries, it started okay. So this is why I'm wondering what exactly is going wrong. There is no joy driving my vehicle now, as I'm always thinking 'will it start'! |

From some days I have the same problem. Sometime it starts, sometime not but after many atempts it does. Today did not start at all. I cheked the starter relay , changed with the glow relay, nothing. That means the starter relay does not get command to energise the coil. I looked for clutch pedal switch. I found only one wich is pressed when the pedal is up. Took a brake to calm down. I dont have the msessage " depress the clutch" I even did not know that such a messege exsist. My car is 2011 facelift. |
