HID Bulb upgrade (After 12 years it was time)

Freel2,

I decided to get some new bulbs for my HID headlights for two reasons

1. Light output for most bulbs will decrease over time (Let me know if this isn't true for HID bulbs)

2. Technology moves forward and I wanted a newer technology bulb

The Bulbs that I selected are Phillips X-treme Vision Gen 2

To remove the headlight assembly just remove the two 10 mm bolts at the top and then lift up on the lever and slide the headlight out. Don't forget to removed the electrical connector too.

Then just move the release rod out of the way and pop off the back cover.

To remove the bulb remove the electrical connector and there are two Torx Screws (T10 I think)

Then you have to remove the spacer and transfer it to the new bulb

Then just put everything back together.

I am happy with the upgrade.

These bulbs are slightly whiter than the worn stock bulbs.

I didn't get an extremely white bulb on purpose. (The warmer light is better for Rain, Snow and fog)

The output is better than the original bulbs but the difference is subtle.

A video on you tube convince me that these bulbs are the right choice for me.

Thanks

Paul

Those Philips bulbs are very good, I updated the HiD bulbs in the Porker as the originals were 5 years old and HiD bulbs do indeed gradually degrade, usually by giving a blue/purple hue in extremes of wear.

And yes so called high colour temperature bulbs are not good for performance as the human eye is less sensitive to blue light than red, so a lower temperature is far better, around 4500>5000 maximum (most OEM HiD bulbs are 3800-4500). Regards

David
