Freelander 2 key fobs

Freelander 2 key fobs won't work unlocking/locking the car.
Hi, I searched the forum upside down about this issue,
Since this is a 2009 model, problem started with I had to get closer to the car for the fob to operate, so then I ordered 2 set of new batteries and soldered them on both fobs, then finally I could use the key fobs from distance. So now after a few months, all of a sudden none of the fobs works at all, no lock/unlocking or lights etc with the fob.
So after I checked the fuse box, I then ordered me an new aftermarket key fob, got it programmed and working, at least working so the car starts. But still I can't remotely open/close the car.
Is it time for changing the RF reciver? And if so where is it located? Or is it maby some other issues I may look into.
By the way central locking is working with the dash key.

i think the RF module is behind the head lining somewhere near the centre. With three fobs not working it sounds like the problem.

I think it is part no LR012398 and looks to be about £60 inc vat plus delivery from online suppliers- less for new or used on eBay.

Thank you for the answer. Yeah I could read somewhere it suppose to sit in the center somewhere. But I can't fint it from the roof light. Do you suppose I need to open the whole roof lining? 😫

From older threads... (search on 'rf module')

EYorkshire wrote:
The 'RF' module that receives the signals from the fob is located behind the headlining, central between the volumetric sensor and the rear end.

The RF receiver is installed above the headlining, adjacent to the rear interior light. The receiver provides functionality for the remote central locking system, and is also used by the tire pressure monitoring system and interior lighting function

Yes. After removing the roof lining 4 times, I can have the ceiling down & all trim panels back in place in less than 2 hours.

It's in the back third, towards the front of that third, a touch to the left, glued on the back of the lining. I would be very careful how you take it off the lining, otherwise you may damage the lining.

More photos here: https://www.freel2.com/forum/topic33026-38.html & look at the whole thread. You will need some clips for the panels.

Boot rubber seal, boot sill off, 4 boot metal tie down rings, 2 bag hooks anti clockwise, boot sides, 4 door rubber seals, B column lower panel, 2 dashboard speaker grills, 2 small vertical trims near hinges of front doors, A, B, C & D columns (screw behind airbag logo), 4 handles, 2 sunvisors.

There is a clip at the rear of the ceiling which you will most likely break. I did some notes on how to hack up a replacement. Sorry no photo as I forgot to take one. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

Holy crap, so much work for reach a possible fault, but not necessary the right part😏🤔. I think I might want to wait for that opperation after -17°c is over and springtime arrive. Anyhow, thanks your guys for such detailed answers.

At -17.1°C it is worth insulating the car. Another bonus of the acoustic foam is its thermal properties. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

Alright. So it seems if I loosen the lining from the rear, and tilt it down enough, I probably won't have to take it all of. I will come back to you if I get it done;)

So finally I found it. Just beside the rear roof light.on the driver's side, on the left on my car. Removed lining from the back and took of the 2 handle bars in the back seats. And that's it. But unfortunately this part seems to be in perfect condition. No moisture or blown parts to be seen. But I've ordered a new one just in case. But where should I go look next.

So. Got the RF recover today. Did a quick swap and drove the car for a few minutes. Tried all my new keys, and nothing happen when I try remote buttons. Also I tryed to reprogram button functions on the same app I did program the new key.(autel maxi). And it fails program it every time. So next thing now is the fault codes. It's some fault codes which I now erased, but 1 code is permanent, and I wonder if that can be the main problem. On the BCM section, I have a permanent fault U0156-00. What's that?

Thanks, I did read this previous I recall, but I couldn't make sense of that causing this issue. I have an aftermarket stereo, but I had that for years due to this issue, so I guess it must be main board or something that feeds this transmitter that be causing this maby.
