In 185,000 miles I never had an engine oil leak so why would you fit an oil catcher, or am I missing the point?

Welcome. I have an oil catch can, having been convinced by possibly the same videos. However I am yet to fit it, sorry. I haven't done the other job you mention - it's an item I am always impressed by when I wash the car. Andy, the oil catcher you are thinking of is the under tray. This is the one inline with the turbo. MY11 SD4 SE Auto |

Oil catch cans are a pointless way to extract money from you. What are you wanting it to to do? The oil in the intake helps lubrication of the intake valves, which is a good thing. I once fitted a can catch to a diesel Skoda Octavia VRS- it collected fluid but well over 95% was condensed water vapour - the amount of oil "caught " was minimal . I took it off as it appeared to be a pointless exercise. Jules |
