DVLA Retention of private plate

Not a whinge about the DVLA , but praise of their online system actually. Yesterday I put the private plate from the Fl2 on retention . The whole process including being issued with an age related number for the car (09) , downloadable authority to have the plates made , and the retention reference number being issued took literally 5 minutes . Obviously a new V5 and the retention certificate will follow in the post . I can’t sell the vehicle without the new V5 , but I plan to run it through the winter , get it serviced and and an MoT and goodbye before the insurance runs out . 2009 GS Auto Zermatt Silver - Sold June 21 after 10 years of ownership

I sold a bike recently and duly sent off the logbook. It then took nearly four months for the buyer to get the new one!
So I was pleasantly surprised how easy it was to have the number plate I'd given the grandson for his eighteenth transferred to his new motor using the on line system.
It did in fact catch us out, as you have to inform your insurer of the change straight away, to be fully legal. His broker closes the customer service side at noon on a Saturday (we did it at one!!) and didn't open till Monday! Luckily he hadn't parted with his old motor and it was still insured.

Indeed , it took over 3 months to transfer the car from my late wife’s name to me , from the time I contacted DVLA to the V5 arriving in my name together with a tax refund cheque . I put that down to Covid staffing and the fact and the paper only system and special department used for such for such a transfer . I’m hoping that the V5 for the new number will be quicker as presumably it’s just a data transaction . The above car is insured via site sponsor A Plan , 5 minutes on the phone and new documents arrived via email for ( I thought ) a quite reasonable £30 admin fee . 2009 GS Auto Zermatt Silver - Sold June 21 after 10 years of ownership

At the moment , I’ve got 2 cars , so I’m in no immediate rush . I hung on to my wife’s Freelander as I use it to shoot/fish / help on godson’s farm . It of an age where I don’t have to be too precious with it . It’s running like a dream but Im planning on moving house in the next year probably renting whilst I decide what I really want to do . I’ll keep the 2016 Outback as it’s been the most reliable vehicle that I’ve ever owned and its really nice thing to drive . I’m a little undecided if I actually want a playtime car , but in no particular order I quite fancy a Ford Ranger pickup or a sports car or even a Tesla . 2009 GS Auto Zermatt Silver - Sold June 21 after 10 years of ownership

I always have to chase the DVLA for road fund refunds. When I telephoned the last time the young lady said "there is a delay due to covid, you must wait at least 8 weeks now", to which I responded " I presumed as much, thats why I have waited 10 weeks2.
The check ( I paid by card ) duly arrived in a further 3 weeks.......

Yes it’s an interesting read this, I noticed when I applied for a missing logbook it took weeks and weeks to come through and loads of chasing up. When I transferred a private plate onto the FL from the 90 the on line transaction was immediate and I had both logbooks through the post in about three days.

It would seem the digital side of things is working well, just seems to be a problem when a human is involved.

Might be quicker if DVLA gave out the home addresses of the people working from home, that way we could send the paper work straight to them!
