Buying outside eBay

I would like buy a car part from a listing that has ended on ebay
I contacted the seller to find that the par did not sell
He would rather make the transaction thru PayPal because of the charges as we both have PayPal accounts is this safe or dodgy
Thanks for your help
James

I don’t think dodgy but through eBay you would have much more security and protection.

If you use Paypal,as long as you don`t send the payment as a "friends and family"payment then you will have protection and get your money back if there is a problem with the transaction and you don`t get the item for example.

Use your credit card not your bank account and you will be even more protected from the seller and Paypal. Make sure you request/pay for shipping insurance with the seller if viable.

Get the seller to send you a PayPal invoice. Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto
Evoque SD4 Dynamic Lux Auto
Present: Audi A3 S Line.

Nobody should rely on section 75 protection if using a credit card via PayPal.

Quote:
Traditional payment processors act as a way for the retailer to receive its money. But with PayPal, in simple terms, you’re paying PayPal and it's paying the retailer. Therefore, even if you’re just putting your credit card details into PayPal to pay, it counts as an agency, the path is broken, therefore you don’t have Section 75 protection.

Article here may provide some clarity on payment protection... https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/credit-cards/PayPal-Section75/

OK, I am in Canada, that link is likely for a different country as it references British pounds sterling but still good to know. Thumbs Up
