I am finally considering getting rid of my TD4 HSE which hasn’t got a dpf fitted. I have spent the last month looking at alternatives and come to the conclusion I want to stay with a FL2. The only thing holding me back is the dreaded dpf. I live and work in the countryside so I appreciate it may cause me problems. I’ve been looking at the various additives that you can buy that help the dpf regenerate at lower temperatures. Has anyone tried them or have experience of running a sd4 without a regular thrash up the motorway? |

In the last 8 years and only 38,000 miles most of which is town driving I have never had a problem with the "dreaded" dpf and have never had any warning or indication about dpf nor have I used any additives so as long as the engine gets up to full temperature once a week or so I don't think you will have any problems.

i have owned my 2011 xs sd4 for over 8 years and never had a DPF issue . 7 miles to work and 7 home all weathers all temps...when im off shift it might get a 60 mile round trip but not every month other than that short drives to town and three times a year a run to the west country ....

Another vote of confidence here too. 2014 SD4 auto, 36k miles, lots of short-ish rural trips, no problems at all. I've decided to stop being a good example and will now just be a terrible warning.....

Ditto comments above - no issues with just 45,000 miles in 6 years mostly shortish journeys around rural Glos. MY 09 GS manual in Lago Grey, Wood Co arm rest and side bumper strips - now sold.

Many thanks for sharing your experience. A bit of a relief really. My current FL2 drives really well but I think it is time to get something newer. Glad I can stay with a FL2. |

Si4 was only produced for export markets, which in hindsight is a real shame as it would now make the FL2 a lot more attractive in the current anti-diesel, lower emissions climate... |

No probs on my 14 reg SD4 56k miles apart from the DPF hose split that was spotted as an advisory last MOT. LR extended warranty said they wouldn't fix it as the DPF wasn't covered and the dealer offered to replace the pipes for £370. My fix was to replace the rubber pipe with a piece of silicone tubing about twice the length of the original for a few £s off ebay so that it wasn't kinked so tightly. Easy job. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

Avoid the Disco Sport, the DPF is mounted to low and does not get hot enough to regenerate on short journeys.
