Hello going to be doing fuel filter change when fitting new one will it automatically re fill it’s self with fuel and get rid off air if any thanks .?

my first ever FL2 and I did keep it longer than most other cars!
But its now gone way up Norf

Fill the new filter full of new clean diesel before you fit it & you will be fine.

As above...it definately won’t and you will either need to prefill it somehow or suck it through...when I did mine I used a vacuum pump to suck it through... lovely design and the clip fittings are great and make it a relatively simple task.

get a bucket of new diesel and drown the new filter until it stops bubbling and then fit to freelander and job done start first time

Its all in the JLR workshop/service manual.

I use the JLR prescribed method of using a hand operated balloon pump to push fuel through the filter (which prevents any muck entering the injector side of the filter) . You can hear air bubbling in the fuel tank from the fuel return pipe. When the bubbling stops - remove hand pump, reconnect fuel line and start the engine.

Thanks to the forum, did mine last night with head torch. Don't know why I was put off doing it myself - easy job. 25mins and that included me faffing about, tidying up and a bit of back and forth to the house to get the right tools.

I fitted all but closest right hand hose and sucked through from there with a bulb. Started up and ran perfectly first time.

Definitely made a difference to the drive - was bang on 2 years and she definitely needed a new one. Keen to cut it open and have a look to see how bad.

The way I do it is to unscrew and take off the water valve on the top of new filter, then I put my finger over the hole on the bottom and fill it with clean fuel through the top. Screw the valve back on and fit.

Which side of the filter will that fuel you're adding go ? Jules

It doesn't go in the side it goes in the water valve hole.

What I meant was does the fuel you're adding through the top of the housing enter on the tank side of the actual filter or on the injector side. If then latter, then is there not a risk of getting dirt into the injectors ? Jules

The fuel fills the filter canister to overflow


Since I use fresh fuel it is not dirty.

Easy way to do it.

1. Disconnect all pipes
2. Remove old filter
3. Drown new filter in container full of CLEAN fuel till bubbles stop
4. Fit new filter & connect all four pipes
5. Start car JOB DONE.
