Crank position sensor ring

Morning all
I have been doing the cam belt on my 2007 TD4
Removed the bottom pulley and the crank position sensor off and it separated into two pieces when i managed to drop it.
It is made up of an inner boss and outer sensor ring that press fit together.

Question is, do the two parts have to be fitted together in the right position to each other as there is no obvious marks to match up or just press them back together, it fits on the key in the crank so im thinking it needs to be in the correct position.

Both of the threads are about the bottom pulley for the cam belt, nothing to do with the sensor position ring at all.
Hence the reason i am asking for advice on the subject i have an issue with.

"The sensor (crankshaft sensor) is an inductive hall effect sensor.
It scans a small timing wheel with magnetic poles inside, attached to the crankshaft.
In this way, when the engine is spinning, the sensor behaves like a pulse generator.
In a specific position, that timing wheel has less one magnetic pole.
Therefore the engine ECU knows how to synchronize with the crankshaft and knows in any moment the position of the crankshaft."

So when i put the two parts of the target ring back together, do they need to be in a set position to each other.

I am thinking they need to be right for the pick up to know where the crank is.

The induction ring should not have split in two halves it is therefore most likely damaged.

A new one fron LR part number LR022656 is about £41 you can get OEM ones such as INA for about £14 and Ruville for £18 also other manufactures use this item see below.

ОЕМ NUMBER
OEM reference number(s) comparable with the original spare part number
OEN 0515.T7 — CITROËN
OEN 96611070080 — CITROËN
OEN JD E27 031 — JAGUAR
OEN LR0 10244 — LAND ROVER
OEN LR0 22656 — LAND ROVER
OEN 0515.T7 — PEUGEOT

As its not an expensive part I would not try and put the original one now in two halves back together, as is crucial element in the engine ignition system.

Cheers for that mate, No one local enough had any so i rung round the LR dealers and it seems the ring has been replaced with an upgrade that comes as a kit, new pulley new ring and a spacer for the lovely price of £240 + vat

Barretts in Canterbury luckily had one original left and stung me £97 for it. The new ring is one piece but my old ring is two pieces, and inner ring that its the crank and an outer ring with the pick up on.
The two parts are just a press fit together with no marks to say where the two parts fit in relation to each other, Off out to freeze me gonads off and fit it now.

Cheers guys.

Just in case anyone needs to reference this post in the future.

I have found out from Guy Salmon LR in Maidstone, there has been many upgrades on the TD4 cps ring.
Mine being the original 2007 is made up of an inner and an outer ring pressed fitted together which
is no longer available.
Several updates later you now need a new ring, new bottom pulley and a spacer that comes at about £240.
