Prop shaft centre mount split

Hi guys,

I had my Freelander 2 in the stealer for what I thought would be a simple MOT and minor service.

They've told me that the prop shaft centre mount or both mounts are split and they want £1192.33 to replace them.

Does anyone have any experience with this? Is it a common problem?

It failed it's MOT on wiper blades and a bulb being out, once they're replace and the MOT is passed, I'll take it somewhere else for the prop mounts to be replaced.

Rob

Do you have some details of which FL2 you have? model/year/mileage etc? FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)
FL2 Metropolis SD4 Auto 2014 2017- (16k - 77k+ miles) (MY2015)
Metro in its 11th Year of (Extended) LR Warranty / Full LR Service History
(Expensive, but Trouble/Worry free - hopefully?)

You can replace propshaft centre bearings/mounts on most vehicles. I’ve done loads of them. Involves taking the prop off, splitting the prop, bashing off the old bearing and refitting the new one.

£50 for the part.

Fitting is something like this:

Evoque SD4 Dynamic Lux Auto
Present: Audi A3 S Line.

Firstly get them checked by someone other than a dealer and if they are in bad shape get a second hand propshaft for £100 easy to fit and lot easier than messing about changing mountings not an easy job if I recall .

I've had a quote from an independent land rover specialist for £565.

It's concerning that stuff like this is breaking, it's only done 50k miles.

Thanks guys

Reading your original post again, as an mot tester, I can’t see how you have two split propshaft mountings and still pass the Mot test. A split prop housing/mounting should be a major failure. Get them checked again. Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto
Evoque SD4 Dynamic Lux Auto
Present: Audi A3 S Line.

I did think that when they delivered that bad news to me. I thought I'd be in for a hefty bill to get to pass the MOT.

Land rover also gave me a load of other work that they recommended having done. I've been to a few major car manufacturers in my time and land rover are by far the worst for upselling unnecessary work. They even wanted to charge me £40 for changing the housing for the fob, just because the rubber seal is starting to peel away.
