Are both key fobs refusing to work.

If the car starts once you gain access and only the open/close process is with problems, then its the rechargeable battery inside the remote.

Yes both temperamental,Car battery is 18 mths old. |

I had simular problems and replaced both fobs over time,

They are referring to the rechargeable lithium battery that is inside the docking key fob. It charges once docked but it does not have an infinite life cycle. |
