Battery change, thought I'd killed it.

So after getting repeated message that system would shut down in 3 minutes and with the car and original battery being 6 1/2 years old I thought it was time for a change before winter. Bought a Varta F17 and fitted it today. Went to start car and nothing, totally dead. Checked battery voltage which was perfect. Put old one back in and still dead. Ffs, thought I'd fried something. After some head scratching, and panicking I realised that there are 2 earth leads, one of which I'd tucked away out of sight. Re connected and normal service resumed Embarassed Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948

Anyone remember the old days when cars had an earth cable going from the battery to the body and then another from the body to the gearbox? If you forgot to connect the body to gearbox cable after you’d done a clutch or and engine or gearbox change, you’d fry the choke cable pretty quick! Whistle Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto

I suspect one of them earths some engine bay modules, there was an electrical 'whine' noise when just 1 connected but everything else, Ignition, interior lights, dash totally dead until I caught on to my silly mistake. Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948

worse than that,on the vws ithink,if you left it off it cooked the ecu
