Newbie - dead spare key...

Hi,

I bought an '07 FL2 HSE about three weeks ago and the spare key seems to be dead. It worked once (unlocked the car) but then died. Would this be covered by the warranty from LR?

Daft question but does it need charging up by being used in the car to start it?

Great forum by the way - I've never used one for car stuff. I've come over from a BMW X3 and I'm loving the FL2 - much better interior, way smoother ride, better auto gearbox, real off road credentials, etc etc Smile

Cheers,

I think you'll find that it needs charging by being used in the car for a while as they charge in the ignition slot when the engine is running.

Try opening the car with the good one then post the key and start as normal, it probably just needs some use. If the immobiliser bit in there is hoooped that would be a warranty claim I would have thought. However I bet it is just the rechargeable battery in it is flat as a pancake Thumbs Up

Welcome to the forum njs123, and interesting to have an ex X3 owner on board Thumbs Up
I have also heard that the key fobs should not be stored side by side. Something about upsetting the coding, although I have not had any trouble with mine. But as MVS said, the fob is recharged in the dashboard slot when the Freely is being used. If that does not fix the problem best get the fob replaced Whistle 2007 Freelander 2 HSE TD4 Manual with Premium Pack & Moonroof.

dead key.

i was told by landrover to use both keys, say one for 6 weeks then swap as they charge when in ignition and being used,so one dont just lose all power.

drove in this morning (about 30 mins) using the 'dead' fob in the car, but when I got out it wouldn't work to lock the doors, I had to use another key. I'll drive home with the dead one again tonight, but how much charging do they need?

The car is due for a service very soon so I'll mention this when getting it done.

Cheers for the input everyone.
